EMPLOYEE ACCEPTABLE USE GUIDELINES
FOR CCS TECHNOLOGY RESOURCES

These guidelines apply to all employees working for the Community Colleges of Spokane using wide area network resources, local area network resources, Internet access, electronic mail and personal computers owned and operated by the Community Colleges of Spokane (CCS). For the purposes of these guidelines, CCS technology resources will be the phrase used to identify all existing and future information technologies owned and operated by the Community Colleges of Spokane. It is the intent of these guidelines to implement Board Policy 1.70.07 and RCW 42.52, and any other state or federal law, regulation and rule that may be applicable.

All users of CCS technology resources are advised that you have no legitimate expectation of privacy. When given cause, CCS reserves the right to monitor an individual's use of CCS technology resources.

ACCEPTABLE USE GUIDELINES:

  1. CCS technology resources shall be used for the purpose of facilitating the exchange of information in furtherance of education and research, and otherwise be consistent with the purposes and objectives of the Community Colleges of Spokane.
  2. CCS technology resources may be used for purposes that enhance organizational effectiveness and job related skills.
  3. CCS technology resources may be used on an occasional and limited basis for personal reasons when such use involves no cost to the district, does not interfere with employee's official duties, is brief in duration, and otherwise complies with all applicable laws and regulations.
  4. CCS technology resources shall not be used for commercial, illegal or political purposes. Examples of commercial use include, but are not limited to, advertising, selling or buying for personal gain or benefit; examples of an illegal activity include, but are not limited to, accessing or creating obscene material or material likely to contribute to a hostile environment for other student(s) or employee(s); examples of a political use include, but are not limited to, opposing or supporting political candidates, issues and/or ballot measures.

NOTE: E-mail messages and web site activities are public records subject to disclosure under Washington's Public Disclosure Act. While there are limited exceptions to the disclosure requirements, state law favors broad disclosure of public documents. Users should be aware that deleted e-mail messages and files can be recovered and will be disclosed pursuant to state law.
