Welcome and Introductions: Vee Sutherlin welcomed everyone to the first meeting of the College in the High School Task Force providing background information in the development of the task force. Introductions followed.

Chancellor’s Charge: Because of the increased interest of the high schools in dual credit programs, Dr. Gary Livingston has asked the task force to study and propose, if appropriate, a College in the High School (CHS) program that complies at a minimum with the State Board for Community and Technical Colleges guidelines for CHS. The Chancellor’s Charge was distributed and reviewed. The deadline date of reporting back to the Vice President’s Council will be delayed until the task force has met and agrees on recommendations and reporting. The task force agreed that there should be sharing of CHS information throughout the college community, stressing that we are studying the issue only. If proposals are made, they will be agreed upon by the task force before being forwarded to the VP Council.

Task Force Membership: Vee asked if there should be any high school representation on the task force. Discussion followed regarding the new graduation requirements for the high school class of 2008 and the WASL testing. By consensus, the task force will only discuss the CHS project and not invite high school representation at this time.

Dual Credit Programs in the High School – WA and Spokane: The following programs were briefly reviewed:

SFCC College in the High School Task Force – 2003: Pam Praeger outlined the development and progress of the SFCC Task Force that met last year.

SBCTC Report, February 11, 2004, from Sally Zeiger Hanson: Per this report, there is legislation pending (HB 2956) requesting that the SBCTC, HECB and OSPI find ways to expand and strengthen dual enrollment programs in the high schools.

Research of Existing Programs: Following discussion, the following CHS programs will be researched for the next meeting:

Next Meeting: The next meeting will be held on Tuesday, March 16, 2004, at Spokane Community College, Max Snyder Building, West Board Room from 2:30 – 4:00 pm.
