SECTION II: ENVIRONMENTAL
HEALTH AND SAFETY
PROGRAM OVERVIEW
GOAL:
The environmental health and safety
program of Community Colleges of Spokane has been developed to provide a safe
and healthful learning and working environment for all who participate in the
services and activities of this institution, and to actively demonstrate its
commitment to practices which are both safe and environmentally correct.
OBJECTIVES:
Its objectives include, but are not limited to, the
following:
1.
Maintain a safe
and healthful learning and working environment for all CCS employees, students
and visitors.
2.
Maintain a viable
and effective accident prevention program.
3.
Provide employee
and student education and training opportunities to promote safety awareness
and improve occupational safety skills and competencies.
4.
Conduct regular
safety inspections of facilities for the purpose of identification, correction
and/or elimination of hazardous conditions or work practices.
5.
Comply with
applicable federal, state and local environmental health and safety laws and
regulations, including:

an accident
reporting and investigation program for the control of injury and damage,
to determine the cause of incidents and work related injuries or illnesses, and
to prevent recurrences;

a system for maintaining records of occupational
injuries and illnesses and for reporting and recording student and visitor
injuries, for use in loss control efforts and in compliance with statistical
requirements of state directives.

a hazardous
materials management program which promotes minimization of hazardous
chemical usage through process modification, product substitution, chemical
supply audits and inventory control, exchange or recovery of chemicals, and
proper disposal of any hazardous waste materials which are generated.
6.
Prevent
interruption of college operations and procedures.
7. Minimize personal injury, property damage, loss and financial claims against the college due to unsafe or environmentally incorrect conditions or acts.
