SECTION III:      BASIC ELEMENTS OF THE ENVIRONMENTAL

                        HEALTH AND SAFETY PROGRAM

 

G)     HAZARD/TOPIC SPECIFIC ENVIRONMENTAL HEALTH AND SAFETY PROGRAMS

 

PURPOSE

 

1.     Provide a safe and healthful learning and working environment for all who participate in the services and activities of this institution by responding to specific needs and hazards of the institution, including those not previously addressed in the generic CCS Environmental Health and Safety program.

 

2.     Comply with existing and newly implemented regulations (federal, state, local).

 

PROCEDURES

 

Staff of the CCS Environmental Health and Safety Office are responsible to develop written environmental health and safety programs, in response to specific needs and hazards of the institution and to existing and newly implemented regulations (federal, state, local).  Subsequent implementation by appropriate CCS personnel is required.  The following are examples of specific programs which have been implemented as of 9/96:

 

·         asbestos operations and management program

·         bloodborne pathogens exposure control program (further detail: Section VII: Safe Work Practices, Bloodborne Pathogens Exposure portion of  this document)

·         chemical hygiene plan

·         confined space entry program

·         fall restraint program

·         hazard communication program (further detail:  Section VII:  Safe Work Practices, Chemical Safety portion of  this document)

·         hazardous energy control program (electrical lockout/tagout)

·         hazardous waste management program (further detail:  Section VII:  Safe Work Practices, Hazardous Waste Management portion of  this document)

·         hearing conservation program

·         pollution prevention plan

·         respiratory protection program

·         spill response plan
