SECTION IV: SPECIFIC
SAFETY RESPONSIBILITIES
CCS SAFETY PROFESSIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES
(Staff Member, CCS Environmental Health and Safety
Office)
1.
Assist immediate
supervisor in the planning and implementation of accident prevention programs
for protection of CCS employees, students, and visitors.
2.
Assist immediate
supervisor in the review, evaluation, and monitoring of the CCS Environmental
Health and Safety program, including hazardous materials management.
3.
Assist in
development of specific environmental health and safety programs in response to
regulatory requirements and CCS needs.
4.
Make
recommendations to immediate supervisor regarding environmental health and
safety policies and procedures.
5.
Investigate
accidents and injuries, as needed.
6.
Advise employees
concerning requirements for compliance with applicable safety codes, standards
and regulations.
7.
Conduct and
document facility self-inspection safety surveys, in conjunction with the
safety officer and environmental health and safety committee member/building
safety representative assigned to that facility, of areas determined to have a
higher potential for safety hazards (shops, science laboratories, etc.). May respond to individual requests for safety
inspections of facilities, equipment, and activities, according to work
schedule and time availability.
8.
Serve as liaison
for CCS with external agencies (e.g., local fire departments, Washington State
Department of Labor and Industries, Washington State Department of Ecology) on
matters of environmental health and safety, and coordinate consultation visits
to CCS by representatives of regulatory agencies. Serve as the CCS point of contact for
regulatory agency site inspections of CCS premises.
9.
With the
administrative services coordinator, serve as resource and contact for CCS on
issues concerning industrial hygiene, environmental safety, hazardous waste
management, fire safety, personal protective equipment, emergency procedures,
occupational health and compliance with the Washington Industrial Safety and
Health Act (WISHA) as well as other state and national regulatory requirements,
such as those of the Washington State Department of Ecology and the
Environmental Protection Agency.
10.
Maintain liaison
with other districts, safety councils and government agencies to keep current
with the most recent safety methods, requirements and/or standards.
11.
As appropriate,
conduct educational safety training, both initial and refresher, for affected
CCS employees as a part of established safety programs, e.g.:

bloodborne
pathogens exposure control
·
confined space
entry
·
fall restraint
·
hazard
communication
·
hazardous energy
control (lockout/tagout)
·
hearing
conservation
·
respiratory
protection
12.
Coordinate and/or
provide, as appropriate, the following services and/or operations:
·
asbestos
operations and maintenance plan (in conjunction with Buildings and Grounds
department)
·
chemical hygiene
plan (in conjunction with college Chemical Hygiene Officers)
·
crane inspections
(coordinate/oversee work of contracted vendor)
·
emergency spill
response
·
ergonomic work
station evaluation
·
eye wash
stations/showers (maintenance/servicing program)
·
laboratory fume
hoods (inspection and testing system)
·
radon monitoring
surveys (coordination with contracted vendor)
·
"toolbox"
safety meetings of the Buildings and Grounds department (e.g., coordinate
and/or provide topical training materials)
13.
Manage CCS hazardous waste management program.
14.
Conduct air
quality surveys as requested by immediate supervisor.
15.
Routinely document
pertinent information regarding CCS environmental health and safety
matters. Maintain accurate records
relating to environmental health and safety at CCS according to applicable
state, federal and local regulations.
16.
Maintain valid
first aid certification.
